Don’t Strangle Your Teenager

On some occasion when you might consider strangling your teenager, please don’t. Because they might give you grandkids someday.

Also remind yourself often that most teenagers are really just trying to figure out who they are, what’s important, and how close they can stand to the edge of the cliff. You may have to rescue them before they tumble down some slippery slope. But in general, the goal is for you to help them enjoy a few personal victories, survive those tumultuous years, and envision a future filled with love, opportunities, and joy.

If you’re already a grandparent, count your blessings. And give your kids — who are now parents — all kinds of grace, advice only when they ask, and plenty of nonjudgmental encouragement.
