Hey Friends:
It’s here! I’m excited. And hope you are too. The great American experiment is a quarter of a millennium and well worth celebrating.
By the end of 2026, you will have acquired a small mountain of festival programs, sparkly headwear, mini-replicas of the Liberty Bell, souvenir sunglasses, and other red, white, and blue memorabilia. (Most of it can go to the trash bin.)
That keepsake magnet can live on the fridge. Toss any commemorative coins, pins, and medals into your least favorite junk drawer. T-shirts can go in dressers. Your photos are already stored in the cloud.
Of course, respectfully store your American flag in a place you can easily access it a few times a year.
Really, the only souvenir you need to keep is my book, Happy Semiquincentennial, America! This patriotic (and occasionally snarky) gift book is not releasing until October 2025, but I hope you’ll order your copy today. Your order will help make a satisfying splash as the book launches.
Keep it on your coffee table through next year. Then slip it onto a bookshelf for future reference. When you’re feeling nostalgic, world-weary, patriotic, anti-patriotic, or restless, you can always flip through its pages and relive the 2026 celebration.
Thanks!
Have a safe and celebratory Independence Day 2025. Wear sunscreen. Stay cool. Marvel at some fireworks. Hoist a cold beverage. Stand when Old Glory passes in your hometown parade.
