“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off, as if nothing had happened.” –Winston Churchill (1874 – 1965) British Statesman and Prime Minister
Friends:
Some people can swim all day in the sea of knowledge and not get wet. But, if we’re honest with ourselves, we know that once confronted with truth, we should never turn our back on it.
Truth reveals how to make choices when faced with the great questions of life: who, what, where and when, and why?
Facts, science, and reason offer excellent insight into truth. Gravity is a fact, so we know that stepping off the edge of a cliff is not a good idea. Medical science reveals the truth that washing hands reduces the spread of germs and disease. Physics explains aerodynamics and the incredible concept that a 400 ton plane can lift off a runway. We should never fear reason and logic.
The challenge is to sift through all truth, reason, logic, wisdom, and common sense and come to some kind of conclusion about what really matters.
When it comes to knowing and trusting Jesus, we don’t have to follow mindlessly. We need to be thinking Christians. In 2 Timothy 2:7, the Bible even makes the challenge, “Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.”
Not when you’re a child, but as mature adults we need to have the curiosity, courage, and conviction to ask the question, “Does the biblical narrative make sense?” Creation. Fall. Redemption. Restoration.
How you respond to that question defines who you are today. And for eternity.
Best,
/jay
